Telašćica Bay is the largest and safest natural harbour, which was declared a Nature Park in 1988. It is known for the steep cliffs of Dugi otok, which are also called "rocks", and rise up to 161 meters above and descend 90 meters below the sea. Another specificity is the southwestern part of the Telašcica Nature Park, where lake Mir is located, which has healing properties.
Lake Mir is connected to the sea by underground channels, and it is saltier than the surrounding sea as it is closed and a has a strong evaporation. The lake is shallow, so it is warmer in the summer and colder than the sea in the winter. On the shallow parts it is rocky, in the deep areas it is covered with wormwood, and on the south eastern part there is a healing sludge.
The splendour of the flora and fauna of Telašćica Nature Park offers unreal scenes. In Lake Mir Bay there is a shelter for abandoned donkeys, and vertical cliffs (rocks) on the outside of Telašćica bay offer a view of the dolphins. Due to the richness of flora and fauna, Telašica is also significant as an ornithological area. On the rocks nest the grey falcon Falco peregrinus and the falcon Falco eleonore, and under the sea can be found various and rare red corals.
An unusual islet called Taljurić also makes this area special. The islet is a small stone slab that has a diameter of about 60 meters and a height of only 3 meters. From a distance, it looks like a flat surface and resembles a kitchen countertop, which is why this islet was called “Tagliero” by sailors in the Venetian dialect, which gave rise to the diminutive Taljurić.
Only 100 meters from the coast of the island of Pašman, the island of Garmenjak is another beautiful uninhabited island within the Telašćica Nature Park. This famous diving destination hides numerous beauties and a world that blossoms even in shallow waters. The Veli Garmenjak Cave can be reached by boat which anchors in the bay in the south eastern part.
Lojišće Beach is a true synonym for peace and relaxation in unspoiled nature. It is located on the north side of Lake Mir. Hidden from view, this oasis will delight all lovers of the sandy coast and camping.
The price of organized excursions includes boat rental, fuel, and skipper, as well as entrance fees for the Nature Park.
