Dugi Otok attracts visitors with its bays and beaches, lush vegetation, and impressive cliffs. In the north western part of Dugi Otok lies the Božava Bay, a famous tourist destination surrounded by pine forests. North of Božava is Zagračina Bay and a military underground harbour which used to be a shelter for the war fleet, built by the former JNA (Yugoslav People's Army). Although it can be visited, the tunnel itself is quite devastated.
In addition to the above, Dugi Otok boasts another unusual attraction. In 1983, an Italian cargo ship ran aground in the area north of the Veliki Rat lighthouse, and the wreck of a ship named Michelle still intrigues visitors today. Although only a mast is seen above the surface, you do not have to dive deep to explore everything Michelle hides, and if you are not able to visit this attraction, check out Gibonni's video for the song "Hey, Vapore", which was recorded right on this shipwreck.
The most famous bays on Dugi otok are Telašćica and Čuna, and they are connected with the Pantera Bay by a narrow channel. The Pantera Bay is especially well known by boaters because this destination provides shelter from almost all winds, except the bora wind.
Sakarun or Saharun, as it is called, is considered one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world. The beach is located in the north western part of Dugi otok. Although it is located by the open sea, Sakarun beach is protected by a long bay, so the temperature is always comfortable for swimming. The white sand and unreal clear turquoise sea resemble the Caribbean.
The price of organized excursions includes boat rental, fuel, and skipper.
